We were the first shop in West Yorkshire to be awarded the NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award and following another assessment in April 2013 we have retained the award for a further two years. We have also been given a top rating of 5 in the ‘food hygiene ratings scheme’ run by the Food Standards Agency, so you can always be assured of premium quality fish and chips with great service guaranteed!
NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Award
The NFFF Fish and Chip Quality Awards is a national scheme, backed by the National Federation of Fish Friers, aimed at finding those shops throughout the UK that offer their customers the best quality fish and chips. The award recognises:
- The UK’s best quality and best tasting fish and chips
- Sustainably sourced fish
- Fresh produce, prepared safely
- Clean, safe and hygienic premises
- Well trained staff
- Great service
National Food Hygiene Rating
Towngate Fisheries have been awarded 5 out of 5 in the Food Standards Agency (FSA) food hygiene rating scheme. This scheme replaces the old 'Score On The Doors' rating. During the inspection the food safety officer looked at:
- how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
- the condition of the structure of the building – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities
- how Towngate manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe

Officially ‘Best Chippy Chips’ in Yorkshire
As part of the The Choice Chip Awards 2013, Towngate Fisheries, Bradford have been voted ‘Best Chippy Chips’ in Yorkshire, as voted for by our loyal customers.
The competition was run as part of National Chip Week (18 – 24 February 2013). Over 500 fish and chip shops across the country battled it out to be crowned the best with over 35,000 votes being cast. Thanks to everyone who voted for us.
Seafish Fish and Chip Shop of the Year
Towngate Fisheries was the Yorkshire Area Winner of the Seafish Fish and Chip Shop of the Year Competition 2007/8, making it one of the top 20 shops in the UK.
